Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f1.4 M42 Lens Review

Let me introduce you the superberb old lens from Japan, here S-M-C Takumar.

Takumar is the famous optical factory from japan well known as "Asahi Opti Co." which produced a lot of high quality lenses. S-M-C Takumar is one of those lenses. Great built in quality, great optical design. S-M-C (Super Multicoated) Takumar in my opinion one of the best 50mm lenses. Some people said Takumar 50mm f1.4 is planar killer (Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4). Supermulticoated (S-M-C in front barrel of lens) is the rare one. Luckily i got one. Here some sample from this lens

Even though this lens already old but its perform is still outstanding for me. Great dimension, great bokeh, great tonal.

The coating of this lens coated by radioactive, no wonder its image result would be different, Hope all of you can try this lens.

YES -- I Have one on my Spotmatic F and I also have on a 'gift' CONTAX RTS II Quartz the 50mm f1.4 PLANAR and the Takumar is just as sharp, even though 'older' . The Takumar is the 'Radio-Active' one and slightly 'yellowed' .

Thx Peter , Yap takumar will yellowed due its age because radioactive coating. :D

For you whats the best lens takumar or planar?

Nuno = For takumar 8 element if you compare to planar 50mm f1.4 is nearly equal. Planar good in 3D pop up . takumar good in yellowish tonal. :)
wide open planar has a little bit purple fringing :)
